Essay Exam

Another common type of exam would have to be the essay. There have of course been arguments over whether or not this type of exam is easy or difficult. On the one hand, depending on the question, it may require a great deal of thought, some really good structuring of the sentences or paragraphs, and a whole lot of logic and thinking. On the other hand, essays can be fairly simple provided that you read up on the subject (even a bit), are particularly bright and logical in the first place, and if you happen to know what your professor or teacher would like to hear from you - sometimes, bullshitting (excuse our French) is incredibly easy when you're taking an exam that largely consists of essays.

Essay exams generally come in two ways: the first is one where you have no choice in which essay questions you will have to answer and the second being the kind where you do. The second kind is preferable among students of course, because they can then choose questions they know the answers to - that is, in fact, one of the merits of taking an exam of this type. The first type, however, has a tendency to be straightforward; rarely does it require too much thought, as it is more like a fill in the blanks question than anything else. Either that, or it would be a question asking you for your motives, explanations or opinions.

The best trick in handling essays is to make sure that you understand all the concepts involved in your subject. There is no dire need for memorizations in essays, so that's one thing off your back.
